Authorities on all things ethereal, designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, of Marchesa, have partnered with BHLDN for the Marchesa Notte Bride capsule collection. The line of five wedding dresses, which they shared exclusively with Martha Stewart Weddings, features loads of lace, pleated tulle, subtle sparkle, and delicate threadwork. Here, Georgina and Keren talk about their new designs, along with a few of their top style tips for brides.
Keren Craig: Working with BHLDN was exciting because like Marchesa, their goal is to make women feel like the most beautiful version of themselves for such an important day. BHLDN’s vintage inspired and romantic aesthetic fit perfectly with our notion of what a Marchesa Notte bride would love to wear. Additionally, their direct to consumer model allowed us to create bridal gowns at the Marchesa Notte price point for the first time. We are looking forward to even more brides discovering the beauty of Marchesa through this collaboration.
Georgina Chapman: This collection with BHLDN is for the Marchesa Notte bride. She is a bride who loves Marchesa’s signature lacework, embroidery and beading, but is looking for something a bit less formal than our Marchesa bridal collection. The Marchesa x BHLDN bride is vibrant and fashion forward, looking for modern interpretations of classic details. She has an eye for impeccable craftsmanship, just like our Marchesa Notte customer.
KC: It was very important to us that each dress feel distinct, but that they still were cohesive as a capsule. We focused on fabrications that are signature Marchesa, including featherweight tulle, embroidered lace and delicate beading; and created a variety of silhouettes that incorporated these core elements.
GC: There really are no rules with bridal dressing anymore, and brides should feel free to wear whatever makes them feel happy and glamorous. The Opal gown (above) would be perfect for an outdoor wedding with its floral appliques and high-low hemline, while the opulent beading on the Tiernan gown (below) provides the perfect amount of sparkle for an evening affair.
KC: We always tell brides to consider wearing a veil for their wedding day, because when else will you have the opportunity to wear one? Neither Georgina nor I did, and now we both wish we had!
GC: It’s also essential to have two pairs of shoes: one for the ceremony and one for after when you want to have fun and dance the night away. Finally we think it is important to keep your wedding day look classic and true to your personal style. You will be looking at these pictures for years to come, so it is best to avoid anything that is overly trendy.
